WHAT IS IT?

A risk assessment is not about creating huge amounts of paperwork , but rather about identifying sensible measures to control the risks in your workplace. It is a huge part of health and safety in a production setting. 

RISK ASSESSMENT FOR MY MUSIC PROMOTION -

This is the risk assessment put in place for the music production. I have showed Fran the document so that she is aware of the potential risks during filming. This is her response:

From this, I can say that there will be a minimised amount of risks on the filming days, because my crew and actress have been notified.

This is a timeline of the shots that will be incorporated in the music video.

A2 G324: COSTUME & MAKEUP

COSTUME:

In the music promotion I particularly want the actress to be wearing outfits that look rich, wealthy and posh to emphasise her powerful attitude. I would prefer the actress to wear whites and black purely because the scenes will already have a lot of colour in them therefore, it would be most ideal to keep the actresses look bold not colourful.  

As for the actresses makeup, it would be most ideal to have her wearing something that stands out rather than a natural look. This is because dark eye makeup is very common in the R&B genre to make the female singers look more goddess like to the male viewers. I will make sure the actress looks well kept and wealthy throughout each scene in the music video to ensure the final video reinforces R&B conventions. 

COSTUME VOTE - 

I researched different types of outfits the actress could wear in the music video so that I could ask my focus group which would look most suitable for the music promotion. This is what I found:

I conducted a tally by asking my focus group what their favourite outfit is out of the section I chose. This is what I found.

The most popular outfit was the 3rd with 3 votes from my focus group. Each individual liked how the outfit was all black which stands out against a colourful background. They thought it was less revealing which would be most suitable for an actress under the age of 18.

This is what outfit the actress will be wearing in each scene:

Fran is going to wear the black dress because that shade was most popular according to my focus group. The actress is most comfortable wearing this dress instead of the red one.

MAKEUP:

MAKEUP INSPIRATION -

I researched different makeup looks on Google images to see if there were any colours I could see the actress wearing. This is the images I found:

From these images, it is clear that i think the actress should wear a orange or purple colour eyeshadow because it will work well with the colours created in post production. I approached the actress to ask what colour she preferred out of the colour chart below, this is the colour she likes the most:

Burnt orange is the makeup colour she is going to wear.

HAIR:

Hair is one of the main features audience look at on an actress, especially when it is volumes and big. However, since the actress will be wearing jewellery, accessories and makeup I think it would be preferred to keep her hair slick rather than volumes. This gives her that innocent yet tough look.

HAIR IDEAS - 

These braids would look really great in the music video because they are slick and neat therefore, will be excellent for continuity. For example, if the actress was to have her hair down, it will easily move throughout the day. This will affect the continuity of the music video making it look less professional.

JEWELLERY/NAILS:

Because I will be doing a close up on the actresses jewellery and nails, I will need to think carefully about what accessories will look best in the video. This is what the actress is most likely to wear:

Fran wears prescribed glasses because she is short sighted, however, it may be a problem recording her wearing the glasses. This is because you can get a reflection from the lighting in her glasses, and her eyes would not be the main focus. As eye contact is very important in romantic songs, I think it would be best for Fran to now wear glasses in the music video. Luckily she will not be reading from anything therefore, will not need contacts during production.

I organised a meeting with the actress Fran, so that I could get an idea of the bedroom layout and how I will attempt to take the shots. I took a few photos to give me an idea of angles, space and distance.

A2 G324: LOCATION DATE

LOCATION DATE CHANGE:

Unfortunately, I received an email from God's Own Junkyard which mentioned that the 3rd November was not available anymore for filming therefore, I would have to swap the date. Luckily, I was able to confirm a day which my actress was free and the venue was free. I had to approach my teacher during this to ask if it was ok to film after the deadline, and I was pleased to hear that it would not be a problem.

PITCH:

This Keynote Presentation is what I will present to my class so that I can get feedback and showcase my ideas. Since I am working along, this will be a great opportunity for me to really understand what my target audience would expect from an R&B music video.

When I presented my pitch to the class, my peers are teacher gave me constructive feedback in order to improve my final product.

A2 G324: PROPS LIST

PROPS LIST:

In my music promotion the actress will be interacting with many props in order to support the themes and conventions of R&B. Some props will be bought and others will be already purchased.

Other than these specific items, most of the objects in each scene are furniture or copyrighted neon signs therefore, are not classed as props.

This is the final storyboard for my music promotion. I included colour in certain areas to show the items significance in the scene and to add a pop of excitement.

WHAT IS IT?

The storyboards are brought into an editing program and are cut together with the correct timing and pace of the music. They can include basic sound effects, dialogue recordings and scratch soundtrack.

I produced this animatic storyboard on Premiere Pro CS6 to show how the shots will look when edited with the music.

This a very rough storyboard that I did to get my ideas out on paper. This storyboard is not intended to be understandable of shots and angles, I just thought it would be a good idea to write all my ideas out in a quick storyboard.

A2 G324: GOD'S OWN JUNKYARD

GOING THERE:

On Saturday 7th of October I went with a friend to God's Own Junkyard to take some pictures and plan where I will do the filming and how I will set up the camera. It was also helpful to understand he journey and how long it takes to get to the location from the station. I will go into more detail about the journey later on in the filming stage however, I will present the images I took and why. 

These images were taken by me on an iPhone 7 without flash or filters. It is clear that the colour in the light gallery is very pink which connotes to being playful, sweet, charming, feminine, cute and tender. Pink also symbolises love for oneself therefore, reinforces the idea of the actress feeling confident and dominant in herself. 

SPECIFIC SIGNS:

RECCE SHOTS -

When in the junkyard I kept an eye out for signs that related to romance, love and seduction as I will use them to cut between two scenes. The signs will be filmed close up between long takes as a transition.

A2 G324: LOCATION PERMISSION

LOCATION PERMISSION:

GOD'S OWN JUNKYARD -

Since my focus group and I have agreed on a location I needed to get permission before I began to produce a story board. I did not want to imagine specific shots and there to be no guarantee on the location. This is how I went about asking for their permission:

GMAIL:

Before emailing God's Own Junkyard I phoned their main office to ask whether I will be able to film there for an 1 hour. I spoke to a kind lady on the phone who told me what to do and when the best days for filming were. However, since the signs are copyrighted filming is not allowed without a price. 

I never received an email back from the junkyard therefore, I called their weekend only phone line and asked to speak to someone who deals with venue hires. I was told by a polite lady that the original cost of hire for an hour is £200.00 however, I explained that I am a school student and do not have the sufficient funds for the venue. 

Fortunately, it was agreed that we would settle for £125.00 for an hour to have the venue for ourselves. It was a good deal since the shots will turn out high quality and the music video will look aesthetically pleasing.

The filming date - Friday 3rd November at 10:30am.

This is the only location I will need permission from.
